PHOTOS2013: Eighth Annual March and Rally to Commemorate Sacco and VanzettiThe Sacco and Vanzetti Commemoration Committee observed the eighty-sixth anniversary of the executions of Sacco and Vanzetti with its eighth annual march and rally. This year's march was once again co-sponsored by the local branch of the Industrial Workers of the World and began with a rally at the Boston Common Visitor's Center. Our speakers included Geoff Carens of the IWW, Jason Lydon of the Community Church of Boston, and Al Johnson of the Bradley Manning Defense Committee. Excellent music was provided by Patrick O'Meara, who sang a few inspiring labor and radical songs accompanied by his banjo. This was followed by a lively march through the streets of Boston to the Paul Revere Mall in the North End. There we heard from Makis Antzoulatos of the National Lawyers Guild and Sergio Reyes, who read this year's Boston City Council's Resolution, which had been introduced before the Council by Councillor Charles C. Yancy, proclaiming August 23, 2013, "Sacco and Vanzetti Day in the City of Boston." Sergio was followed by Dave Whelpley and ended with with Genevieve Butler, both local activists. Patrick O'Meara provided us with more songs, and Jake and the Infernal Machine performed a few stirring numbers as well.
