[PAST] People in Boston March for Sacco and Vanzetti!

A group of about 70 people marched through the streets of Boston yesterday to the chants of "Sacco and Vanzetti: We Will Not Forget!". Carrying banners that made the historical links between the repression and judicial murder of these two anarchist workers in 1927 and the repression today we could see the banners that carried the messages: "You can kill us, but you cannot kill the Idea!, "Stop the raids and deportations!", "Arab workers are not our enemy!", "No worker is illegal!", "Sacco and Vanzetti live!".

The starting point of the march was Copley Square, proceeding through Downtown Crossing and Faneuil Hall into Hanover Street in the North End. The marchers stopped at 256 Hanover Street, where the offices of the Sacco and Vanzetti Defense Committee operated and replaced a historical marker that has been missing there since the 80s. A temporary plaque was affixed and the Sacco and Vanzetti Commemoration Society (SVCS) will now work to put up a permanent one.

The march ended at Langone Park (the site where the funeral procession for Sacco and Vanzetti started) to a rally. Boston City Councillor Felix Arroyo presented the SVCS with an official resolution from the Boston City Council that read "That the Boston City Council does hereby extend its admiration and congratulations to the Sacco and Vanzetti Commemoration Society, and in honor of its many contributions, does hereby declare August 23, 2007 Sacco and Vanzetti Commemoration Day." The full text of the resolution will be posted on this website shortly.

The rally counted with speakers from some of the endorsing organizations such as the Boston Anti Authoritarian Movement, the IWW Boston and Providence Chapters, the Boston Anarchist Black Cross, the Stop the Wars Coalition, the Boston May Day Coalition, a member of the Italian American Labor Council, and other speakers, who through their message contributed to the knowledge of the struggle of Sacco and Vanzetti. Indeed, among the participants of this march Sacco and Vanzetti live!
